Race Day

Anna is officially a runner. She participated in her first 1K race for the Fargo Marathon. She ran the entire race, and was so unbelievable cute. Of course, she was wearing her racing shirt, created by Papa. Brad was the mastermind behind the quote "If you can read this shirt, you must be in 2nd place." Over the last month, I have been prepping Anna for race day. Last week, I was saying, "Anna- are you going to run fast? Anna- do you run crooked or in a straight line? Anna- if you walk, do you keep walking or start running again when you have rested your legs?" She looked at me and said, "Mommy, why are you talking about the Race all day?"

I ran the 1/2 marathon...my first big race since bearing children. I was happy to get my goal time of 1:50, but was not happy with how mad my body was at me! The kids made me a very cute sign. They bundled up and waited for me at 3 spots. Anna and Luke were so excited to give me a high five. After the race, we went to the 2nd annual Engkjer party, which was fun. On Sunday we had a great time celebrating Maia's first birthday. James can say "Maia." Anna loved the party, especially the party hats and opening up Maia's presents.

Mother's Day

Anna and James presented me with an iPod nano, complete with downloaded Bon Jovi, Ani, Madonna, Beck, and This American Life, my favorite NPR show. It is "for (my) runnning." I love that Anna knows all about going for runs. "Did you have a good run, mommy?" "Should we go for a run?" When Dave or I take off for a run, and the kiddos stay at home, they watch out the window and wave as we leave. My mom actually took James over night as practice for our trip away, so Dave, Anna, and I went out for brunch at the HoDo. Anna was so good. We prepped her and said, this is a nice restauraunt so we all have to be on our best behavior. She was awesome. Boston will be fine. She also ate well. Including chewing on a piece of bacon for like, ten minutes. It was the fat part. Dave noticed in the bathroom she looked like she was chewing gum. He told her to spit it out but she didn't want to b/c it tasted so good. So she finally swallowed it.

On Saturday, my mom and I had a garage sale at her house. I had a hard time letting go of the baby clothes. The good ones that didn't sell (without stains, etc), I am keeping for the next baby- probably not mine, but K's, Erica's, or Kabie's. Anyway, my mom was in classic form. That woman can put on an event. She cleaned the garage, set up all the tables, had all the cash and change ready, had the signs made (with her terrible handwriting) and still made 2 pies, cookies, and coffee. She is the only person I know who would try to sell ANYTHING! I mean ANYTHING! A deodorant that she did not like the smell...tried once...I am serious. Also some hotel shampoos. Someone did actually buy some Bath and Bodyworks lotion that was partially used. It was just tooooooo funny. I tried to go thru and just throw things away that were ridiculous to sell without her seeing, but I totally missed the deodorant until the end. I shouldn't laugh too hard though, b/c I kept the deodorant to keep at work. After all, she is my mom.
